A city must be data, not a guess #
Many catalogues contain a “state” field or free text that may represent a province, region, slogan or coverage area. Automatically creating a city page from every string would generate errors. Universe Radio separates City and Region and requires high geographic confidence before a city can become indexable.
Start with the country #
The same city name can exist in multiple countries. A robust path always uses country + city in the slug or internal record. That produces clear canonicals and reduces collisions. If the system cannot safely distinguish city from region, the legacy generic URL falls back to the country page rather than inventing a redirect.
How many stations are enough? #
A page with one fragile stream has little independent value. The Search Readiness gate considers station count, reliability, completeness and demand. A page can remain useful as a UI filter while `noindex`, without forcing search engines to index thin surfaces.
Local radio and coverage area #
A station can be based in a city while serving a much larger area. The city describes origin, not guaranteed terrestrial coverage. For internet radio that physical limit matters even less: the stream can be heard globally unless restrictions apply.
Using cities for discovery #
City pages make sense when they represent a real set of broadcasters and let listeners move to Country, Region, Language and Genre pages. Their goal is not to multiply URLs but to make discovery of local voices more precise.
